Recently had a problem with an external Seagate external hard drive. As the title explains I cannot view it in disk management. I've tried shortcut virus removal software but realised it's not that as I can't view it at all in my pc so there is no letter for the software to look for. I've seen a similar thread which solves the issue by formatting but that's not an option as there's stuff I need on there.

When I boot up the PC it can see it and when I plug/unplug it my computer makes the usual positive sound.

I'm running Windows 10.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

Hi there Samwell,

You need to attach the drive to another system with a different cable. In case the issue persists, then your system recognizes only the enclosure but not the HDD inside. Possible causes: failed drive or faulty enclosure. In case it is under warranty, you can just RMA it.
If the drive runs fine on another system, then you need to go to your MOBO's website and update all the drivers(especially USB ones).

Thanks for the reply. It isn't working on any other system either and no difference with other cables. I had a load of adware at the time so could it possibly be related to that ie a virus of some sort?

Cheers,
