Looking to upgrade quantity of RAM on my x58 system

I have an x58 system that I built about 5 years ago now. This is the RAM I am currently running http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224. I want to upgrade from 6gb since games are demanding much more than they did in 2010. This will be the last upgrade to this system before I buy a new cpu/mobo. I do not want to spend a mint on this upgrade, as triple channel RAM did not stand the test of time it seems.

What would be the best way to do this? Can I add ram to this setup? Should I buy a 3x4gb triple channel ram kit? Should I just buy a dual channel 2x4gb kit? Any input would be appreciated.

I'd look for a 3x4GB set like the Snipers F3-12800CL9T-12GBSR or Ripjaws F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL, there's no guarantees when adding or mixing DRAM
  2. I had found the ripjaws on newegg for 66.99 last night and was actually leaning toward those. That probably is the best plan at this point. Thanks
  3. No worries, they are great sticks with your combo ;)
