I just purchased and set up "Ideaworks USb powdered Long Range Antenna." From the reading I have done I know this piece of hardware contains both an adapter and an antenna. It uses Ralink RT2870 drivers.

The network I connect to does not have password securit. it requires each computer's MAC address to be entered into the system before a computer can access the net. If a computer's ID is not entered into the main system, then even if you connect to wifi you can't access anything. Instead you see that golden triangle with the "limited access" message.

My computer has been entered into the main system and I can access net fine with my laptop adapter enabled. But after I connected this new adapter to my system, I am once again getting the "limited access" message and can't access the net at all. It is like the network can no longer recognize my machine ID or something.

Does anybody know what is going on?

I have tried running windows 7 troubleshooting and get the message: "doesn't have a valid IP configuration."

unfortunately the FAQ provided are very limited and there does not appear to be any customer support for this piece of hardware. I have very little networking experience beyond the most basic, so I don't know how to tinker with more advanced options.

Is there any way I can get this antenna to work by adjusting network settings in Windows 7 or am I out of luck?

thanks for your help

The MAC address is associated with the network hardware. The new USB adapter has a different MAC address than the internal WIFI. You need to have the old MAC address deleted and the new MAC address added to the WIFI source.
