It is time for a new computer, been about four years since I bought my current CyberPowerPC. I've removed/upgraded parts in that but have never built a PC from scratch, so I'm definitely open to suggestions/changes. I play really gpu intensive games on steam, and I want something that'll last for at least a few years.

Definitely looking for holiday deals.

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: Trying to buy most of the parts to take advantage of holiday sales
Budget Range: ~$800-$1200
System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, photo-editing, office work
Location: Bay Area, CA
Parts Preferences: Intel CPU
Overclocking: Never have before, willing to try
SLI or Crossfire: Never have before, willing to try
Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

For less $1000 you can get a 980TI gaming rig.
And the spare money, you can upgrade storage drive or others if you want, the most important thing is the video card - which is why you should build around that, and upgrade paths in the future are easier too.

You might want to consider a cheaper i5-4690k / z97 mobo route to save a bit on ram / mobo and go for a better gpu / maybe case. SSD and 16gb ram for photo editing is a must, can't see you skimping on those.

Is there something you can cannibalize from your old rig, like a HDD / case / psu maybe ?
