Toshiba External Hard Drive - USB connector broken off, how to access files on drive?

Hi all.

I have a Toshiba External hard drive, model number mk5059gsxp, and the connector has broken off.

I ordered a SATA cable but it doesn't fit, can anyone recommend a wire I can use to move the files from the HDD to my new external HDD, via my laptop?

Hi there PurpleFrenchie,

Most probably the drive has some sort of a proprietary connector(could be soldered). This is why you can't attach it with the SATA cable.
My advice would be to look for some tutorials/videos on that. Not sure whether you can remove it.

External ? That designation shows it's internal 2,5" drive. External usually need USB cable and connectors, not SATA. If so, you should be able to get new enclosure with USB connection.

@CountMike This is most probably the model number of the drive that was inside the enclosure. The user just took it out of the enclosure. The thing is that, some external drives have proprietary connectors that are soldered in most cases.

if PurpleFrenchie took it out of the enclosure then it was not soldered in place.

PurpleFrenchie, is there a narrow & wide connectors on the actual hard drive?
