Hey I'm considering upgrading my RAM in my old Dell E6500. Problem is, most of the ram out there isn't cheap. The best I found was on Best Buy:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/cms-4gb-1x4gb-memory-ram-compatible-with-dell-inspiron-17-1750-notebook-ddr2/1306197913.p?id=mp1306197913&skuId=1306197913
and http://www.bestbuy.com/site/crucial-4gb-ddr2-sdram-memory-module-multi/1305521603.p?id=mp1305521603&skuId=1305521603
I am also wondering if it would be worth the cost, if it would extend the life of my laptop or no.

Laptops aren't good for upgrading much. It will not do much for the life or speed of your laptop. DDR2 ram is too outdated. And buying new 4gb ram isn't really an upgrade if you are already at 4gb. You would have to bump it up to 8gb to make a difference. And even that difference wouldn't be noticeable. Your HDD can't even be upgraded to an SSD because it's a SerialATA connection and if you still have Windows XP, it wouldn't work well together anyway. I'd say just start looking at newer laptops.

Hello,

It will give you a performance from the same laptop for a few years. But you will definitely want to upgrade to a newer laptop to use the upcoming ram consuming softwares.
