Hello,

I've had my PC for as long as 4 years so far, I've upgraded it last year with an SSD and it is still pretty fast for almost everything I do, I play very few games but those are working fine so far, mostly FIFA 16, Titanfall, BF4, AgeofEmpires II HD, but I want to step up and play more demanding games like GTA V, Fallout 4, etc.

My current specs are these:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
8 GB RAM 1333 Mhz
Motherboard GIGABYTE 880GM-USB3
Kingston HyperX 3K 240 GB SSD
ATI Radeon HD 7770
Generic PSU 550W

To play that kind of games, do yo think I could just do some upgrades or would I need to get a whole new build?

Regards.

the FX 6300 is enough to run everygame from my understanding and heres a comparison between the 6300 and 1100T

the 1100T performes better overall by a small amount and should not bottleneck a 970.
as for the next few years it really depends on where game devs go, otherwise you will have no problems playing GTAV and other current AAA titles...

get a better quality PSU, a new GPU, and a decent aftermarket cooler and overclock your CPU.
the phenom processors are actually faster than the FX series chips so no need to get a new CPU, and try and get your RAM to 1600Mhz of faster if you can do so.

it all depends on your case and budget.
a 960 is a cheap and very capable card at 1080P but a 970 would be a better choice for newer games.

as for the powersupply get an XFX, corsair (non CX series) antec or seasonic powersupply thats 650W and that should keep you gpoing for a while

Alright, let's say I get a GTX 970 (any manufacturer will do?) and a Corsair PSU 650W+, and I keep the same RAM, would that be more than enough for gaming the next 2-3 years at max settings? Won't I get bottlenecked because of the CPU? I'm not sure if my mobo is capable of 1600 MHz or more than 8 GB RAM though.

Regards.

overclocking your CPU is another option to getting better performance out of your CPU

Thanks for all your help, I'm still consdering a whole new build If I get enough cash, if not I'll stick with the suggestions you are giving me.

For the new build I thought in these specs, please let me know what you think:

Intel i7 4790k
Nvidia GTX 970
Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB
Seagate Barracuda 2 TB
XFX PRO850W
CoolerMaster HAF X
ASUS Z97-A
Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16GB 2400 MHz
Noctua NH-D15

nice set up.
just a few ideas to save a few dollars
if you are just going to have the OS and drivers on the SSD 128GB is way more than enough.
if you are paying a premium for the 2400Mhz speed you can just as easily overclock a good quality 1600Mhz kit to that and save $10-$20
and id also recommend another fan or 2 to aid with cooling

I'm with baumy15 mainly.
Drop a new PSU & GPU in there & see if you're happy with performance , anything from a 960 or 380 up is a huge boost from your old 7700 series card.

Take the CPU benches with a grain of salt , in real life the 1100t is no match for a 6300 & I doubt you can oc much on that board in all honesty.

Just buying those 2 items though will give you the option of upgrading the rest of the rig in the future without blowing too much money now.

Leave your ram as is , there's very little difference for gaming between 1333/1600/1866 & 8gb is still enough for the majority of people.
