So my buddy is trying to hook up his PC to his TV via hdmi (model: 32PFL5605H/12) and he keeps getting the error message "Unsupported video format". First I thought it might have something to do with the resolution but we couldn't even find an option for that on the TV (not even sure if TVs have that setting).

Not sure what else to do but it seems like a simple fix and we're missing something... halp

Was this problem ever solved?

The response from ajhockey3 is confusing, to say the least:

- Original poster never mentioned USB. I assume he is using HDMI
- Have you ever seen a TV that does not support video?
- First you say to try something basic like .avi, but it must not be .avi

Anyway, I have this very same problem right now.

I have an Intel HD Graphics 630 adapter. I tried to reinstall the driver, but that did not help.
I will try on older version of the driver and let you know.

Bart

usually means the tv cannot support the resolution the pc is trying to output, or the aspect ratio. If possible, hook up a monitor at the same time and see what resolution windows is trying to display to the tv. Ive had this issue before and my pc was trying to output 4k to a 1080p tv.

I found the solution (at least for my case).

Windows Update could not find it, but Intel has a newer driver for the HD Graphics 630 on a Kaby Lake Core i3.

With this driver, the display problems are vanished.
