My transcend 1 TB external drive works well with other laptops / TV, etc., but not on the HP laptop. The same one was working earlier in the HP laptop earlier, but it stopped working because of some reason. It does not even appear in the computer's drive list in the explorer. If someone has come across the same problem and found a solution, pl. let me know.

Welcome to the community, lkchandra!

Since you are able to get it properly recognized on other computers and devices, then the issue must with your laptop's USB hub controller drivers. I'd recommend you to go to the laptop manufacturer's website, find your model and download the USB hub drivers for it from there. You should simply uninstall them from Device Manager and then re-install them using those from the website. Here's a tutorial from MS that might be useful to you: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff553572%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

I'd also try using a different USB port on your laptop, maybe the one you are currently trying to get the external HDD recognized from is damaged.

Hope this helps. Good luck! :)...
