I am working on an Alienware Aurora running Windows 10 Upgraded from XP Pro to Vista to 7 and now to 10. The initial problems were 1) When you hit the power button, it acted like it was going to start but just after the fans start up it would shut off. It would start up about 1 out of 5 times and then 2) once it started it would give me a Over clocking error. ""warning !!! the previous overclocking has failed, and system will restore its default setting"" and an MBR ERROR 3. What I did was pulled out one stick of RAM and it booted. Since it booted I went into CMOS setup utility selected Load Optimal Defaults and selected ''Yes''. It booted and ran fine minus 2 Gbs of RAM and I still got the MBR error but windows loaded and we could use it as normal. I put the Stick I took our back in and same startup mess. I so put two 8GB sticks of RAM and I only got the overclocking error once, but the MBR error is gone? Can bad RAM cause an MBR error and and overclocking error? I still have an issue with a cold start up as well. With the new RAM and the errors gone, it still, sometimes, doesn't start up on the first push of the button. There are so many things that this could be. Bad MOBO? I know the RAM is good. Power supply coupled with bad RAM is my guess, but what is yous guys and gals opinion?

yep if a stick of ram is not perfect it will cause BSOD and instability. I had my custom living room pc had a bad stick of ram i was just lucky it could boot up so i could figure it out. I had a couple BSOD then one basically said ram issue so ran memtest x86 came up with 11 errors on different sectors. Switched it out and no more BSOD.
