How will my CPU hold up if I buy an AMD R9 390?

Hello!

I currently have an AMD FX6300 and an AMD Radeon HD 7870. Will it benefit me at the moment to upgrade to an R9 390? What will the consequences be?

And if there are any GPU alternatives, like the GTX 970, should I go for the alternative instead?

Solution
R9 390 and GTX970 kind of perform the same. Both will be bottlenecked by your CPU. Especially at stock speeds. If you OC it to like 4.5 Ghz then the bottleneck will be deleted/minimal in most games but you might still get a bit of noticable bottleneck, especially in CPU heavy games like GTAV/BF4.

Still 970/390 are viable options with your CPU, if OCd.

Okay. So what CPU do you recommend I get next? I might be leaning towards the 970 because I've been having problems with AMD drivers in GTA and other games recently, and Nvidia have shadowplay.

If you want to stick to AMD the 8350/8370 are mostly used for gaming with high end cards. 9xxx series isn't recommended at all, because they overheat like hell and AMD just puts the heat problem on the customer, so don't get these. So either 8350/8370 (same socket) or you switch over to Intel, but you would need a new motherboard for that too, and possibly a new Winwows copy too.

So i'd suggest 8350/8370. :)
But wait for other answers too. I'm not THAT good with AMD CPUs. :p
