go to control panel, system, "activate windows" should be the link on the bottom of the system page. if you have internet it will automatically activate. if it doesn't then you'll need to locate the windows license key. If it didn't come with one, then look on the bottom of the laptop should be a windows license key

if not, call dell, the laptop should have a service number, dell will have the key on file. once you have the key, got to control panel, system, click the "change product key" link and enter the correct windows key.

It was on bottom of the laptop.
