I already have a gpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500362. I'm looking for an easy case to bring to my friends house. I'm not sure if i should do a mini itx or micro atx build. My gpu is 8.03 inches long. I'm going to buy some of the parts over time as I get the money.

Solution
Mini ITX would give you the smallest option but may be an issue with finding one that'll fit card length.

For M-ITX,
The BitFenix line of Prodigy would fit what you're trying to do and give you room for optical drives. Also comes in colors and has handles (no experience on how sturdy they are tho).
Bitfenix also has the Phenom line up. Decent reviews, lots of room for an M-ITX. No optical or handle.
Corsair has a line of their Corsair Graphite Series that is for M-ITX, pretty well reviewed and has a handle. Tho no optical.
Corsair Obsidian Series is also well reviewed. No handle but has an optical drive bay.
CoolerMasters line of Cooler Master Elite is well reviewed, has an optical but is no handle for easy carry.

For a M-ATX...
I always felt that moving the case was one of the least annoying parts about lugging around a desktop. It was the wires, cords, keyboard, mouse, monitor etc etc that seemed most annoying to me. So matx vs itx probably won't make too much of a difference in ease of movement.

I don't want to buy a gaming laptop and my current system ways a ton.

Of course not. But a micro ATX case and a mini-ITX case aren't that different in weight. One might be 10 pounds and the other 8 pounds. So either way it wouldn't be a big deal for choosing matx vs itx. And yeah if you're currently lugging around a CM Cosmos at 50+ pounds, I get it.

Bitfenix has the same line up only for M-ATX as well.
Cooler Master N200, basic black tower case but good reviews.
Thermaltake Core V21 is a cube case. Good reviews, no optical.
