I have decided on the other components of my new pc. the only choice remaining is the psu and the gpu.
I am stuck between the GTX 970 and the R9 390.(290 are out of the question as they cost twice as more)
I know the R9 390 has better future proofing with 8 Gb of VRAM but it also requires a better PSU and it costs around 30-40% more than the GTX 970. (Crazy pricing, i know)
My question is, is that 30-40% extra money worth it?
Also suggest a PSU for either of these. I can only choose from corsair, antec and seasonic.

Oh yeah, India prices tend to get jacked up pretty high. With an upgrade cost of that high, I don't know if you'd really benefit from the upgrade with price vs performance. It is a better performing card, but if its out of range pricing wise then I'd look at a high clocked 970.

As for the PSU, I've seen a few sites claiming a 550W is the bare minimum, with a 650w recommended for the R9 390. The 970 has a recommended 500w so that makes things a bit easier. If you want to plan for the R9 390, go with a solid 650w unit.

For units to look at, check out this post for some models. I'd try and stick to the Tier 1 or Tier 2 models. The Seasonic S12-II is generally pretty easy to get a hold of tho its not modular...
The pricing is about the same, give or take the day you look a them. Of the two, the R3 390 performs a bit better than the 970. It is an inch longer as well so depending on the case that may be an issue. As for the PSU, what is your budget? And why only those companies?

I live in India and yes that is indeed the pricing. Asus Strix is available at Rs. 29k-30k online, while the only available R9 390 online is the Sapphire version priced at Rs. 42k. The local retail price of the Asus R9 390 is 38k, since theres no reference online ill have to trust the retailer.
As for the PSUs, neither EVGA nor thermaltake are available here. The budget for PSU would be around 6000-10000 Rs. which would be around 100-200 USD but with duties and taxes i would say 75-125 USD

Bro, currently selecting a GPU would be a pain in ass.
I don't favor AMD cards in India as they are overpriced.
For NVIDIA side, GTX 970 comes under your budget but it has the 3.5 GB VRAM problem.
So, either go for a GTX 980 which you can get around 45k at local stores and in some online stores also.
Or wait for Pascal GPUs which will come in Q2 of 2016.
Hope, it helps

Yes the only thing holding me back is the 3.5 gb VRAM. Though I dont mind upgrading when pascal comes out (provided pascal will be compatible with z170 mobos) also right now 980 doesnt fit my budget.
As for the psu how is the antec vp650?

Its not a question of wattage but of build quality. A 650w PSU will push that GPU and CPU just fine, but the build quality of the VP line isn't great. Thats where the concern comes in. But if thats your best option then go with it, its got plenty of power for what you need it to do.
