Changing my motherboard.

If I change to a new motherboard, can I just re install windows 10 from the ISO I have on a USB stick? I'm asking because I thought the product key was tied to the motherboard. Or would I just be better off to call Microsoft to activate my new motherboard?

Solution
By licensing, if you have an OEM copy, its tied to the original motherboard. If its a retail copy its not tied to the hardware. If it is OEM often you can talk with MS, either they're cool and give you a code to activate or an option to purchase a new license at some fee. I've gone through both with installs I've done.

Option A. First make sure everything is backed up before any new hardware comes in to the equation. Run the install, it'll get you to the activaction point, then you may be prompted to call MS for a code. Call, step through the process and it'll likely transfer you to an actual human. Explain whats going on and see what options they give you.

Option B. Buying a new copy is in your future.

It's not OEM. my computer came with Windows 8.1 and I upgraded to Windows 10 as soon as I could.

Yeah I figured out that I have to buy Windows 10 to guarantee it'll work properly. I've read posts that sometimes Microsoft won't activate the licence and it would remove future hassle anyways.

Thanks mate. :) I figured that if I'm already spending lots on parts, what's an extra $150 Canadian?
