Thankfully I double checked this with a EVGA rep the SSCED and the SCED will NOT work together here's a link to show SLI compatability for different gtx 970 versions: http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59534

ok i did some reading up on this because i though it would be crazy that a manufacture would make the same modal of card incompatible with a slightly different modal. from the looks of it many people have been able to sli these two modals of cards out of the box, however they were having some issues with the card. many other people were able too by updating the vbios so they were the same for both cards. generally the same card will always work together, and some amd cards will work with different modals entirely, despite the vram and core clock. this is one of the first exceptions i have seen. i am a bit surprised evga would do this.
