Hey all,

I'm looking to upgrade my system and am currently looking for advice. Here's what I'm looking at : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qxv6Jx

Recently upgraded my GPU to a R9 390 - Unfortunately my wifes laptop died this week!, as such I'll be using my current system (without the R9) to build a PC for her and then purchasing a new system for myself. Any advice here would be fantastic. The only real questions I have is: what's folks thoughts on the Kraken?

Primarily I'll be using this machine for gaming @ 60fps+ on 1080p.

Seems to me Kraken is barely better than Noctua NH-D14

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/6810/nzxt-kraken-x41-140mm-aio-cpu-cooler-review/index6.html

Noctua is quieter though. And probably half the price.
Which is saying something, considering water cooling should cool better and usually should be quieter. At least for me, both of those 2 are the main reason to go for watercooling. Besides better overclocking.

I'd say, if you are going for watercooling (you have to have it) and overclocking, look at some other units. At load, you should see watercooling at 10 degrees celsius lower temps. Not 1 C.

Oh yeah, and look at radiators of size 240 mm. If you can fit it in the case. Same price as Kraken but cooler temps. Bigger radiator area is just about always better

Otherwise, Noctua or cheaper.

Those 4 fans, I hope you are going to use them as case fans. Needs better static pressure to use as radiator fans. Around 2-3 mmH20 at least. Corsair High performance or similar fans.

Vardar seems great too, probably a lot quieter than my Corsair HP fans. I have the Corsair Quiet edition too but those just don't cool the radiator enough, CPU temp goes too high, especially during summer. I have Corsair H100i and I'm hesitant to recommend it because of pump issues/noise and pretty poor software, the Corsair Link software. Some versions work for me, some not at all. And it seems to be different for most people, depending on what Corsair AIO cooler they have. So it's a mess.

Looks like a solid build otherwise.

Thanks for the insight with regards to the Kraken vs the Noctua. I'll certainly look into that. In my current system I have the Corsair h80i Which has done me well. What would you suggest outside of the x41? (the h100is seem to have a few issues and the h105's may not fit in my case unfortunately)

Lastly, those 4 fans are simply case fans, not to be mounted on any Rad.

Again thanks for your thoughts!

I don't really know what to recommend. AIOs are a bit "Meh" compared to custom watercooling kits. Can't cool down GPU as well, which is the 2nd part that generates just as much heat as CPU. But Custom loop is expensive, 2-3 times more. But that would make the system even more quiet.
Less heat in the case, less fans, less RPMs. You still need fans tho.

I did research for a week before I decided, taking my economy into account and 120mm would not have sufficed, too little cooling for any serious overclocking. I had a Noctua so it had to beat it.
Corsair H100i was it. 240mm rad. I would go for air cooling if you can't fit 240mm radiators.
The benefit just isn't there for smaller rads compared to air cooler.
