Hi guys,
I currently own a i3 3220 and im gonna get a gtx 970 or 980 in the future and i had some questions...
1. Will my processor bottleneck my gpu?
2. How much more performance will the i5 give me and is it worth an upgrade?

Solution
Your i3 will bottleneck both cards, because it's just a dual core, especially in CPU heavy games. (GTA/BF/strategy games)

The i5 6600k is a HUGE improvement coming from an i3. It will last you for AT LEAST 3-5 years without any problems or bottleneck i guess.
Also has great OCing potential.

The i5 is definitively worth every cent. :)

the i3 is a 1155 pin cpu the newer cpu is 1151 you have to replace the mb too when you switch. the newer skylake mb there are two types low voltage ddr3 units and newer ddr4 go with the newer ddr4 mb. the newer skylake in real life is faster then the older cpu. with the i5 your going to get two more real cores that games and os can use.

You should really upgrade that CPU to an i5 as the one you pick is just over 50% better gaming wise than your current i3 and general desktop usage wise its very good at multitasking.

I have a i5 4460 and a MSI GTX 970 at the moment which is doing great with all my games.

If your looking at getting the i5 6600k go for the non K version (K versions are unlocked and in meaning they can be overclocked) as I presume you won't be overclocking.

The i5 6600 is about 10% than my CPU.

You may need to upgrade your board due to the socket type.

Up to you what you want to do.
