Hello,

I'm looking for a good value/performance cooler for overclocking a 5820k cpu. I want to reach at least 4,5ghz to match my actual 2500k.

Right now I have a zalman cpsx performa. I think it won't be enough to cool down he 6 core and highest TDP.

I'm wondering if an aircooler like the noctua nh D15 is indispensable to do a nice OC on the 5820k ?

Or do a thermalight true spirit 140 POWER will be enough ? (half the price) with six 8mm caloduc, it's the biggest of his category.
And when I refer to some test, it's seems to almost match the D15.

What do you guys think ?

thanks.

For a heavy overclock on the 5820k I would personally suggest either the Noctua D-15 or Cryorig R1, both will be able to handle even the most aggresive overclock:

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $89.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

CPU Cooler: CRYORIG R1 Ultimate 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $89.99

Look at this chart. http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2777&page=6

The 5820K is a 200W TDP chip when overclocked and needs an appropriate cooler.

If it will fit in your system, the Thermalright seems like a great choice with enough cooling power to do the job and quiet too, for a very reasonable price. If you get it let us know how it works out.

4.5Ghz is a bit optimistic. Half of all chips are below average.

Hello,
Tanks for the answer.

I dont know cryorig, but here in France they are more expansive than noctua d15.

Watercooling is not an option. I dont want to change my case and i want as little noise as possible !

And i read than a good aircooling could rivalize with water.

Im not looking to do an extreme oc. I thought 4,5ghz was the norm for this cpu ^^'

I will settle for 4.3/4.4 i guess.

What your thoughts about the thermalright True spirit rev A over the True spirit POWER ?

I dont find comparison and the rev A is newer it only have 6mm caloduc.
The POWER has 8mm.

I really tend to go over this one expect if you told me than to cool down the 200w tdp a dual tower cooler is required !

Thanks.
