I will be building a new computer over the next few months and my question is...Will I have issues if I first get a new SSD, load the OS (prolly Windows 7 or 10) and use it with my old hardware first? In a few months I will get new processor, graphics, mother board, etc. Will the SSD/OS have a problem with switching hardware? Not sure if it logs SN's or anything else.

Thank you

Solution
Yes, the OS on the SSD will probably have issues with different hardware.
2 considerations - Operation and Licensing

Operation - It probably won't boot. If it does, there may be other lingering issues

Licensing - It will probably become unactivated. A call to MS might fix this, but no guarantees.

Recommendation? Wait until you have the new PC built.

Better to wait, all an SSD is going to do is make for a fast boot and faster load times in general. Which, while nice, aren't really going to be worth it if using it now causes you headaches later when you swap the rest of the hardware.
