Can i use only 3 ram slots when 4 are available on dual channel

Hello everyone
I am using a msi z97s sli krait edition mobo i currently have 8gb of ram 2x4gb kingston hyperx 1600 mhz on second and fourth slot ...i was wondering can i use one more 4gb stick of ram in the 3rd slot in single channel ?
it will be the exact same ram in the same speed

You cannot mix Single and Dual Channel RAM configurations

Check your mobo guide - you may be able to use three slots by switching to Single Channel - but probably better to just use two and stick with Dual Channel for the speed it gives
