Hi, I am planning to build a PC which I'll be using for 3D softwares which are 3DS Max & Maya.
I have thought of a build which comes in around 700-800 $ . I would like to know if this build will be good for all the rendering and if i will give me my moneys worth.
I also had this doubt, should I buy a powerful CPU or a GPU for my work ?
In some threads I read a CPU is more important, in others it said GPU, pleases do advice.
If you have any other builds please do tell me
Thanks
My budget is 700-800 $ (not including monitors, mouse and keyboard)

My build:
Intel i5-4460
8GB DDR4 RAM
500 GB SATA III
Nvidia GTX 970 4 GB.
I searched and got this build for ($730)
Is it worth it ?

Case, PSU, mobo?

Perfect, but a SSD would be a great improvement, also make sure you have enough PSU and it have the right 6/8-pins PCI connectors. Corsair 200R or Spec-01 are great cases. Look for XFX, Seasonic, Rosewill, EVGA G,P or T branded PSUs and avoid Corsair CS "semi-modular" ones. Gigabyte/Msi Gaming 3, 5 or 7 or AsRock 4/6 and ASUS Z97-A, Sabertooth Mark 1, Pro Gaming are good mobos.

Look for low CAS latency if you will work with AutoCAD, etc... (Like 2133Mhz CAS 9, a G.Skill Ripjaws one :p )
Seems okay. Is this for your job, school or hobby?

As for the CPU vs. GPU debate a lot of that depends on the specific software you are using. Check their specs to see if they have a GPU mode or not. But in general getting an i7 is a good idea for 3D production work if you are being serious about it.

Iam building it for my work, college work. Yh, i checked and the softwares do have a GPU mode, iam wondering whether it will give me better performance running it on GPU mode with the 970 compared to running it with the CPU.
Wish there was an online site where you could check and benchmark softwares on different specs :p

Case and PSU i got, but Mobo is hard to find xD cant find compatible ones. The ones i do find are only DDR3. Can you give me a few mobos which can support this setup ?
SSD's are kinda high priced :p prefer HDD's. I read on a thread related to this and someone commented that a 970 is an 'overkill' for this. What iam wondering is if it'll give me better performance running it on GPU mode in the 970 then on CPU mode (i5 4460)

Sorry, I just saw the "DDR4" now.

I like X99-SABERTOOTH, u can remove all that plastic if u dont like the color scheme, it's resistant, good fan control, nice UEFI Bios, good brand, nice price (in it's price range), good caps n' chokes, etc.

About HDDs: AVOID Seagate at all cost! Buy WD or HGST (Hitachi).

What software you'll use? AutoCAD, 3dsMax, Maya, Photoshop, Sony Vegas, Premier, Illustrator?

Any gaming? :(
