Current CPU: AMD FX 4100 3.6mhz 2 core. Current GPU: Radeon HD 7850
I have 16 gigs of memory running windows 7. My question is which component should I upgrade?
I only have a $150-200 budget. What would be the most beneficial performance upgrade for gaming at lower frame rates and less crashes? CPU or GPU?

Solution
You would probably benefit most directly from a GPU upgrade, the FX-4100 can handle a slightly more powerful card before bottlenecking too terribly.

You could theoretically go up to a GTX 960 or AMD R9 380 with the FX-4100, though even with those you might see some bottleneck. I wouldn't plan on going beyond those cards as upgrades before upgrading the CPU & Motherboard, but both would provide quite a nice gaming boost before having to upgrade the core of your system.

The GTX 960 is much easier on the PSU, so if you have a budget PSU (that can still technically support the card) it would be the better choice than the R9 380.

Thanks! I was looking at those two cards earlier today. I believe I have 750 or 800w PSU. I have had good luck with the AMD line so I think I will get the AMD R9 380.
Thanks again!
