My motherboard currently has two Ethernet ports, I use one to share internet with a second computer in my room. I'm thinking of upgrading my motherboard, but the motherboards I'm interested in only have one Ethernet port. What sort of device would I need to purchase to be able to continue sharing Ethernet from my computer? I'd also rather not deal with an Ethernet card.

The router and switch are located on the other side of the house and I would rather not run cables out that far, or deal with Wifi for that matter. The only time the second computer turns on is for LAN gaming. Could I run a second switch in my room to be able to communicate with my second computer?

Is very simple then. There is an ethernet cable from the router to your pc#1 does it not, unplug this cable from pc#1 and plug it into an 8-port switch instead in the same room as the 2 PC (yes am saying router and switch don't need to be near each other), now your switch has 7 ports left, another cable from switch port#2 to pc#1, and a third cable from switch port#3 to pc#2. Simple. Like a TV splitter.
