Hello all,

I recently build my very own computer, but something is bugging me.

My system:
gigabyte Z170X UD5 TH mobo, i7 6700(non-k) cpu, be quiet dark rock advanced c1 cpu cooler, 2x 4GB DDR4 RAM Kingston hyper X @2133Mhz (not overclocked), Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX 970 gpu, corsair AX860 psu, samsung 850 evo 500GB SSD, TP link archer T9e wifi card, corsiar obsidian 750D computer case, windows 10 home 64bit, benQ xl2430t.

I have put everything together, first time booting up I got LED debugcode 55. Looked up the code in my manual and found out my RAM was not competely inserted into my mobo.

Second try my computer booted and I installed windows 10 and necessary drivers (not all because some were giving installation errors). I don't have an optical drive so I downloaded from the gigabyte website. I will buy an external optical drive to get the from the included DVD. But anyway the necessary drivers are installed: mobo chipset driver, nvidia gpu driver, wireless internet driver, audio driver (not f.e. ethernet driver).

Everything is working fine. I downloaded steam and played some games. Computer seems to be performing as expected. All the fans are spinning(case, cpu and gpu). So nothing wrong there. My computer also recognizes all the hardware in my mobo.

BUT I get these LED debugcodes and I don't know what they mean so it stresses me out a bit. It makes me think something is wrong with the computer, but there is no indication of that because it is working fine.

I recognized a patern:

when I shut down my computer and then boot it back up it gives me as LED debugcode: 04
when I restart my computer it gives me as LED debugcode: 51
when I put my computer into sleep mode and wake it back up it gives me as LED debugcode: 03

Can someone help me to understand this? Is there a problem with my computer? Or don't I need to be worried?

Thanks in advance for all your helpfull comments!

Hey ToonBE,
These error codes are common, there isn't anything wrong with your PC and you don't need to worry, you can just ignore it. These normally comeon and don't affect anything, they are probably just some codes which state what you are doing. From every source I've looked at as well as my experience, they won't damage or cause any issues.

You are over worried , these LED codes display a lot of codes , you should only care about it if there is a problem with your system like unable to start or boot or no bios , bad GPU/CPU/RAM install ....
Since every thing is working you do not need to look at these codes
These codes are in the manual of your motherboard , read it to know what each code means

Also do not buy a DVD for the motherboard drives , the CD that comes with the motherboard is nearly always outdated compared to the drivers in the website .

Erm... How are you supposed to download them without any internet driver on your new computer :/
I bought 1 too very cheap anyway :D

I dont know how you downloaded it but if you did you dont need the driver cd any more

to the thread starter as these mb and ram are new a lot of mb vendors have bugs that they have to work out. make sure you have the newest bios file on the mb. there not too many yet for your mb. on my mb they have 5 new bios in a few weeks. and it did fix some of the memory issues i was having wiht the new rig i built. to not you..all you need now is usb sticks. microsoft sells windows 10 on a usb stick now or you can use there free iso to usb tool to take a windows 10 cd or iso image and put it on a usb stick. all you need now on a small usb stick is the ethernet chipset drivers to get online and then download all the other drivers or drop the newest drivers onto a small usb stick.

Hello,

First off, thx for your reply!

Yes, I stopped worrying about codes 03 and 04, since they are not even in the manual.
However, code 51 is: 50~55 Memory initialization error occurs.

It seems strange, because my RAM is functioning (although on first sight: it is recognized by the system as 8gb installed). Also this code only comes up after I restart my computer. Do you have any explanation for this? It is my first time building a PC, so my knowledge of these more complex things is limited.

Hello ZENprime, thx for your reply

as I stated above, I stopped worrying about the codes 03 and 04, but I still worry about code 51 since my manual states: 50~55 Memory initialization error occurs. However, everything seems to be running like it shoud...

I would use the included cd, because some drivers I got from the internet were not installing (see original post)...

Hello!

I downloaded my wifi card driver on an other computer, put it on a external hdd, pluged it into my new system, installed from there and then I had internet connection. Then I went to gigabyte website for drivers, but some don't install.. maybe conflict with new windows 10

So you think code 51 (50~55 Memory initialization error occurs.) would just be a bug of the mobo and not an error limiting my PCs performance or damaging things?

I also read updating bios might be dangerous for your system? They also say it on the download page:
http://www.gigabyte.co.nl/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5479&dl=1&RWD=0#bios
"Warning:
Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction."

in the old days with dos bios updates and windows bios update programs there were chances of bricking your mb. the only time know of bricking a mb is if the power fails or you use the wrong bios file. boot into the bios look at the bios rev on the main efi page. if it the first bios and there 3 or four new ones out take the newest bios file and update your mb. with the newer skylake mb and ram there going to be one or two needed update for cpu and ram code. after those updates come out a lot of time the other update are optional for small bug fixes.
