I'm upgrading to an i5-4690k, I have the MSI B85M-G43 and I figured out that I will might need to do a BIOS update before I install the CPU.. how do I get the bios update and is the update really necessary?

Solution
Of course you can, like I said in my first post "version 3.6 or later"

The reason I quoted version 3.6 is so you'd know if your board needs BIOS update or not.
If it already has BIOS v3.6 out of the box, there's no need to perform a potentially risky update process.

with a bios update on new mb there is a bios updater built into all new mb bios. all you need to do is unzip to bios file and the move it to a usb stick. plug the usb stick into a usb 2.0 port and reboot into the bios. if oyu have fast or quick boot on you need the msi boot to bios tool to boot into the bios on reboot. once your in the efi bios on the lower right you see a tab to go into option/bios updates. go into bios update and click on update from disk. click on the usb stick and then the bios file. click ok and let it run. when it done updating the bios goingto be reset to factory. go back in an reset any setting you may need to change.
