Does adding a Dedicated GPU lower CPU Usage??

I am currently using a brand new i5 4440. My friend is using i5 4460. Now while playing GTA V with Intel HD Graphics his CPU usage was around 80%. He bought a new GTX 750ti and his CPU usage is now 50% with same settings. He gets now even more FPS.

integrated GPU has integrated GPU core itseft and CPU core has CPU core itseft
GPU core and CPU core is seperated

technically disable integrated GPU wont faster CPU, but it will make CPU run cooler and run faster
because integrated GPU core is at CPU

that your friend get more FPS is because of his GPU. GTX has faster graphic performance
 


But the question was not FASTER, but USE.

Yes. If you increase the settings from 720p to 1080p and from low to ultra effects, the CPU load often drops as the GPU take even more load, although FPS may fall too.

 
Assuming we are talking about gaming here. Your CPU usage is tied to your FPS. If you increase your FPS by using a faster D-GPU, your CPU usage will go up.

But, as has been mentioned, the iGPU on the chip will no longer be used. Technically that is not the CPU, but it does steal RAM and draws more heat.

But I have decreased the fps only to see the CPU usage but nothing changed. The usage remains same at 20fps and 100 fps.
 


There is usually 1 dedicated thread that's sole job is to feed the GPU instructions on how to render a frame. This is the thread/core that is hammered hard, and it will go up or down depending on how fast your GPU is generating FPS.

If all you did was look at the total usage, you may have not noticed a major change, as there are other threads on other cores which might not change a lot. So you see 22% at 100 FPS, and 19% at 20 FPS, but if you look at the cores, there is a core whose usage that will drop as your FPS drop.
 
CPU usage is the average of cores. Hypothetically, a CPU like an i5 can be limited at 25% usage. One core is limited at 100% and the other three cores are doing nothing. Even one core averaging 75%, wit peaks of 100% and troughs of 50% could still cause performance issues.
