while trying to boot i get the error code pxe-e61 check cable. I believe this is a hard drive error so I tested both hard drives in a different build using the same sata cables and the system booted fine. Is it possible that the satta ports on the mb have gave out

PXE boot also requires a server on the other end of the cable. If there is no PXE boot server you will get an error. You should be able to disable PXE boot in the BIOS.

The boot order is how you could get rid of the error. Is network set in the boot order before the HDD?

It is possible to get this error if the HDD isn't bootable for some reason. The computer fails to boot from the HDD and the network is listed next in the boot order.

thank you for your help! the reason it was trying to boot through the network was because some of the sata ports gave out so it could not read the hard drives to boot off those.
