Memory incompatibility issue?

I recently changed my motherboard to an Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 that was given to me. It's a few years old, so most of the QVL ram isn't readily available anymore or really expensive for some reason. I purchased some Crucial Ballistix BLS2KIT 4G3D1609DS memory. It's a matched set of 2X4GB. Ever since installation I've had countless blue screen errors and boot issues. Is it possible this memory simply won't work with this motherboard. Or might I just need to tweak things. I've already tried so many different things. Form bios changes, to changing slot. Nothing seems to make a difference. I'm running Windows 7 64bit. The memory is recognized by the system. Although, sometimes it recognizes all 8GB and sometimes only 4GB. I've also run memchk that comes back clean. Any suggestions? I'm sure I've forgotten to mention something... :)

A couple of things I forgot. The CPU is a PhenomII X4 840. I'm using on-board GPU for now. Also, motherboard drivers are current. I've also done a clean install of Windows a couple of times. Many times when I boot up, Windows will preform normally for awhile (up to an hour?) before the screen crashes and I get a blue screen.

Thanks for responding scout_03. I'd thought of that and already tried. Although the motherboard is not "new", it had never been used before I installed it recently. I really feel like this is a memory issue.
