I have just plugged my new SSD into my computer and freshly installed Windows 10 onto it. In the BIOS Set up settings i have dragged my SSD to the front and my HDD to the back so it should boot Windows of my SSD.

Now that i have freshly installed Windows onto my SSD is there any files i should be deleting on my HDD? Also when i load my computer up it comes up with my old desktop background, etc the exact same as before my SSD. So is this running off my SSD of my HDD? The boot up time seems to be the same and everything.

Remove the HDD from the boot sequence
Disconnect the HDD

Does the system boot up properly?

OK then.
If there is nothing on the HDD you need, go into Disk Management, delete ALL partitions on it
Create one new large partition
Give it a drive letter
Format that
Done.

That the thing, i still have all my files from before, i have no where to move them apart from the SSD. But the SSD is to small to hold all the files. And both of them have Drive Letters.

Yes, they both have drive letters.
The old HDD should be something other than C. Is it?

You need to verify that it is actually booting off the SSD, and SSD only
Power off
Disconnect all other drives, except the SSD
Power up

Does it boot correctly?

That pic tells me nothing.

As said...disconnect all other drives
Power up

Does it boot properly?

So i have just formatted the SSD inorder to reinstall Windows onto it because i wanted it freshly installed, and it won't allow me to install it. It keeps coming up with a GPT error of some sort. So i Formatted it on the storage selection screen, did nothing, and then i deleted it, also did nothing. I have now loaded up the PC with the HDD and it is no longer showing. I have no idea what has happened...

You need to do that again, and this time format it as GPT.

Start all over
Boot from your install media
When it asks where, select Custom
Select and delete ALL existing partitions
Let Windows install to the whole space, creating what it needs.

Do this with ONLY the SSD connected.

Download the drivers, and install them on the SSD OS.

Does the system boot correctly with only the SSD connected?

i have installed all of the drivers etc and it is working fine. I have not installed any programs tho. I am wanting to keep all the programs i have on my HDD along with all the settings. So what should i do? Will i need to reinstall them like a fresh start completely or can i keep the HDD the same? I basically wanted to keep the PC how it was before i had the SSD. But since running off the SSD i obviously lose all my programs as they are installed on the HDD not the SSD.

Yes, you will need to reinstall all of your applications. The new OS does not know anything about them.

So will i need to actually Wipe my HDD? Because if the OS is running fine of Windows is there any need of wiping? Been moving * over to my External for 5 Hours now ha, and it's only hit half way....Just trying to find a quicker solution.

No, you don't HAVE to. But it is just wasted space.

What error does it give? You may need to change the permissions on that.

Yeah dw, i was able to fix it, thanks anyways.

One quick question tho, once i have moved all the files i want t keep etc on my SSD and External is it ok to just transfer them back? For example, i have installed google chrome, skype, steam, etc on my SSD so it recognises them. But i am wanting to keep all the settings and files i had before. So will it be ok to just overwrite them with the old files? Also i am wanting to throw everything on the HDD apart from Steam and my Windows is that a good move or no? Because im not really sure what i should be putting on it.

Your SSD should have the OS and all/most of your applications, apart from games.
For games, whatever fits comfortably on the SSD...the rest on the HDD
What really takes up space is music, video, etc. Those you can redirect to the HDD no problem.
