Hey guys, i need help with a msi 970 gaming motherboard, i dont know what happened to it but, whenever i trie to turn computer on, everything works, except i get no signal on monitor, i have tried resetting cmos, changing all parts(cpu/ram/gpu) but nothing, i know all of parts are working because i gave my friend the parts to check on his 970 and works just fine...
one weird thing is that i have USB keyboard and mouse with lots of led's in them, and when i plug in mouse, it shins like it suppose to but keyboard wont, i tried all usb ports on mobo and case, still nothing, keyboard has been checked on different pc and again works fine.
Any idea guys, i would be really thankful.... its just that this is something new for me

A while ago another user had the same problem... mouse and keyboard did not lite up and the monitor was blank... resetting the monitor's Sleep Mode worked for him; That's disconnecting it from video and power and pressing the power button for (?) cant recall the number of seconds so make it 30... next wait a couple of minutes and connect the monitor again.. that worked for him.. If it doesn't work for you, it may be monitor damage...
1. Does it remain blank from the start?
2. does it display a "no video" message?.
3. does it flicker or turn momentarily on and then off?
4. Did you try the monitor on your friend's computer?
5. Another possible cause is the PSU... if the BIOS doesn't beep, try a different PSU in your computer. No BIOS beep/s means the computer is not working, it can run fans and hdds that run directly from the PSU and use little power, but the motherboard and CPU that require more power are not active due to low PSU delivery.

Hey tanks for answer, i have tried other monitor that actually works, but still nothing, i was considering PSU but did not check that, well maybe i did, if this counts ----> i took lower end mobo and placed in the same system, all parts except mobo were the same, and pc booted up just fine.
Almost forgot, motherboard beeper doesnt beep either, and i also have tested that in other system.

Monitor does not flicker or show no signal message, it just stays black, the little led light blinks in monitor, usually when u have other pc connected to that monitor, led just stays on, same when nothing is connected, message shows up but light doesn't blink

Let's see if I understand you:
1. You tried a working monitor on your computer and it doesn't work and there are no beeps?
It could be either the PSU or Motherboard is dead.

2. You tried another motherboard in your computer and it booted right up?
Dead motherboard most likely. The BIOS beeps are the clue.. When there are no beeps, it's either the PSU or the motherboard.. So, if your computer booted with the other motherboard, and your motherboard doesn't even beep, it's probably dead.

Monitor leds behave differently on different monitors so I can't tell with that info... I need more details. If the monitor LED blinks and there is no video displayed... but when it's connected to another computer the LED stays on and there is video(?)... Then the monitor is OK...

That is IF the monitor shows anything even if only a "No signal" message when the video cable is disconnected or the computer is completely off, it's working OK. It may not display anything when connected to your computer because it's detecting the video card but it's not getting video image.

Yeah monitor is fine, and psu too... after mobo broke, i checked north-bridge and it had weird liquid stain on the corner of chip... nothing was spilled on the mobo, so just wondering could that stain be a problem and where could it come from.

The Motherboard has been fixed, dont exactly know the issue, but one day i just took it back together and it simply worked, still does but i cannot explain where the liquid came from.

Sometimes the BIOS apparently fails to post and resetting it removes whatever corruption caused the issue. You mentioned resetting it, but... the time may have been insufficient, giving the motherboard "a rest" probably gave the BIOS enough time to reset properly. The BIOS may have had corrupted user settings.

Qs:
1. If all capacitors are healthy (no buging, cracked tops, leaking tops or bottoms)?
2. your CPU doesn't have liquid cooling?
3. and the motherboard posts and boots normally, with no delays or abnormal pauses?...
The fluid stain may have to remain a mistery.

Here's an example of a ASUS Northbridge leaking... MSI motherboard gives no results, but if they use the same northbridge hot chip, it's possible the MSI NB cooler may also leak.

Thanks for the reply, and i have checked the capacitors, actually all the board, it has no broken parts at all, it post all good like it supposed to, and it had indeed liquid cooling for cpu, i took it out as the warranty was going to end, after taking it out i tested it by running it without computer an having paper all over it, notn happen, i also actually took it apart after couple tests, i replaced liquid and it works good, i know i shouldnt replenish/ change liquid for closed loop cooling but, the warranty was going to end so i changed it and run on old computer with old parts that i wouldnt feel sorry to loose/burn or whatever else :) liquid cooler works fine and actually better than used to work.

I asked about liquid CPU cooler before realizing the fluid stain is on the north bridge... so that's besides the point.

If you checked the overclock.net information, seems that the north bridge cooler can leak... any chance your's may have leaked at some point?

No not a chance, this motherboard does not have liquid cool-able north bridge, unless i would get the aftermarket one, if there is even, as much as i know, on the top of the north bridge sits just a simple air-cooled heatsink. That is the reason why i am so clue less. if heatsink is just a metal, where the fluid came from. :D well i am just happy enough that the board started to work.
