Hi new to the forums here, I just had some questions for my pc. So, I had this pc for about a year now, and was able to play a lot of games max or high settings fine. Nowadays, with all these new games coming out and black friday and cyber monday coming up, I was wondering if I should upgrade my pc. I was thinking of what cards to get and deciding between saving some money to buy a gtx 970 for $320, or being a big spender and buying either a gtx 980 for $430 or r9 390x for $420. I was also thinking of buying a intel core i7-4790k as well. If I were to buy a new processor and graphics card, do I have to upgrade my motherboard, fan, and power supply as well? Thank you for anyone that helps me because I am kind of a computer noob.
Here are my specs
RAM: 8.0 GB
Processor Intel Core: I-5 4670K CPU 3.40 GHZ 3401 MHZ 4 core
Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 280x

Your motherboard is fine for any graphics card.

Depending on the CPU you choose, may or may not need to change motherboard - it depends on the socket. However, there is no reason to change it, it´s a good chip for gaming.

a GTX 970 should last you 3+ years on 1080p and a GTX 980 TI should last you 4+ years on 2k resolution.
There is $300 difference in the price.

No reason to upgrade your cpu. But if you want more performance, overclock it. You can easily squeeze it up to 4.3 Ghz+ - just remember a cpu cooler like CM Hyper 212 Evo for $25.

The GTX 970 is a great card, and if you want a better card than 970, you should look at the 980TI - but that´s only needed if you play at higher than 1080p.

Okay I might get the 980ti would that last longer than a year? And for over clocking, what app should I use? I usually use the msi gaming app for over clocking. If I upgrade to the 980 and maybe my cpu , would I have to upgrade my motherboard and etc.?
