OK, so I need to buy a new printer/scanner copier.

I mostly use the scanner. I only print occasionally, which is the problem.

I'll buy a new inkjet cartridge, print a couple of pages, then won't use it for six months. When I come back to print something, the cartridge is dried up.

I've decided I want to go with a laser printer.

I want a good price, but I want something that will hold up, too.

I don' really care about wireless.

Black and white is fine.

Can anyone make a recommendation?

Thanks

Is something not bad. Its only 25ppm(pages per minute) but its fine.
Has 2side print, which is useful.
Doesn't have builtin 2side scan which is a minus.
Have USB+network ports, also there is wireless model if you want.
Usually printers print faster on network than USB, because of protocols and because sometimes computers don't offer USB2 HI-SPEED, or they have hi-speed which is not activated in bios and/or provided on some USB ports.
You can see difference in USB ports from 10ppm to 20ppm, affects scanning too.
This printer is for 500-2000 pages per month.
Normal toners go for ~1500 copies, although there are...

Price range ?
How many scans per month ?
How many prints per month ?
How many copies per month ?
Lan or USB ? Fax ?
Does speed makes difference for you ? I mean there are printers that print/scan 22ppm(pages per minute). Which are the cheaper choice.

I'd like to stay under 200 bucks

Print speed is irrelevant, I print infrequently. As I said, that was the problem with the ink jet printers I've had.

I seldom copy, so that's not really important.

I don't even have a phone line, so fax is irrelevant.

I'm going back and scanning all of the documents I've been keeping forever. My current scanner takes between 3, and 4 minutes per document to go from scan to file, and it takes a number of clicks on my part to complete the operation. It also only scans one page at a time. Significantly better scanning performance than that is important.

I seldom copy, so that's not really important.

USB is preferrable to LAN.

Normal toners go for ~1500 copies, although there are some double toners i think they're called, that can last 2200 pages, according to their stats which was something like 7% coverage on page.
But you don't want those ( 2200 pages one ), if you don't have that much printing.

Lower class printer(cheaper option).
Doesn't have 2sided printing, and lower cartridge included at start ( 700 pages ).
Still can do 200-2000 pages per month on monthly base.
21 pages per minute.
Almost same models, have little difference(from my point of view).
How many pages do you scan per month ?

Usually I'm happy with HP, because they work almost out of the box.
On some older models, the software can drive you nuts, but oh well that's the life.
Can't offer you anything other, since @my company we mainly use HP.
Mainly higher class printers, because of the higher demands ( you know .. 55ppm print/scan, 8000-36000 pages per month and so on).
If there is someone that can say some nice models from Canon, would be good, to compare price/specs.
Usually HP provides all the software in their drivers ( Print+Scan Drivers + including Twain software to scan to - pdf, jpd, tif, send to email and some minor image correction on scan).
