hello people of pcpartpicker, i am currently saving up and i am planning on building a computer for university, i will be gaming a bit, not heavy super 4k ultra max setting gaming, but gaming on high with at least 60 fps, and i will be doing a doing a lot of work, i will be using some electrical engineering software as well, as that is what im studying. any feedback of my parts would be greatly appreciated. my main wants from this build. is Quiteness, Stability and speed, i dont want to feel a slight glimmer on lag on ANYTHING, i built a gaming pc last year for 300 pounds and it was my first build, and fair to say it was awful, but for university i was going to buy a mac for 1500 pounds but i thought building a pc would be better, please help me so i can build the best computer i can or i will have no choice but to join the sheep of people that own a mac. thanks

IMHO, cheap stuff is a false economy, but once you get beyond a certain price point, you are paying a lot of extra money for a bit of extra performance.
£600 - £800 is the sweet spot. Beyond this you are into diminishing returns.

If I were you, I would ditch the water cooler, get a £25 case, and get a cheaper motherboard.
The graphic card is great for gaming, but sub-optimal for Autocad, which runs 3D better on Quadro GPU

cheers for the feedback guys, is the build overkill then? what gpu should i get?
and i was planning on using the liquid cooler because of the case im using and i want everything as stable as possible so i want low temps all round.

if you think im wasting money on the skylake can you reply with what im wasting money on, why and what would be the best alternative

Skylake i5 is the future - very good chip, slightly better than mine... BUT it should run perfectly happily on mid range mobo in cheap case with cheap / free air cooler.
below 75°C heat does not kill CPUs, excess voltage does that
my 4690k is overclocked on stock cooler, and it is completely stable.
GTX 970 is a great GPU, but you can do a lot with a 960 if you want....

^ right! so i would be fine with the stock cooler, i wouldnt mind shaving that off as that would save me quite a bit! i just dont want any excess heat because if you see the size of the case, im wanting a small case.
and regarding a 960, would i be able to play battlefield 4 on high with at least 60+ fps

I had not seen your case design.... not sure if the stock cooler would get enough airflow.
My daughters i5 PC is built inside an Aerocool QC203 case, which is almost as small as yours, but of more conventional shape. Air cooler fits easily. She has a very small room at uni, but still managed to fit her PC in it.....

I think you should go back to Haswell, Z170 MoBo and DDR4 are still very expensive.

I suggest something like this (it could have been cheaper, but i love itx builds):

wow, intel xeon would that not be overkill as its mainly for a bit of cad and uni work.
and gtx 980! heard its not that different from a 970 but its a whole lot more expensive.
i might go with the haswell, but would the performance not be quite lower than skylake.

I don't know about ddr4.

However, on my i5 3570k it is really hard to tell if I have the ddr3 memory set to 1600Mhz or 2000Mhz

Basically 2% difference on Hyper Pi, and 2% difference on Cinebench.....

You'll hardly notice any difference between haswell and skylake, the increases in performance of Intel's CPU are very low since sandy bridge. An i5 2500K is perfectly capable of competing against a 4690K and at gaming it could be unnoticeable.
