I'm building a new PC for my 10 year old son. He only plays Minecraft and Clash of Clans right now, but will probably be wanting more demanding games in the future. His rig so far consists of:

Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-03 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case
MSI Gaming Z97 GAMING 5 mobo
SAPPHIRE DUAL-X Radeon R7 265
G.SKILL TridentX Series 16GB DDR3
i5-4690K Devil's Canyon i5-4690K Devil's Canyon
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
EVGA 750W PSU
Win 7 with free Win 10 upgrade

I've already purchased all of the above items. The video card is in my own computer now, I've been running it for about three months. I'm replacing it with a GTX 970 and will put the AMD card in his new machine. I also have a couple of spare 128GB SSD's and a larger HDD that will go in his rig. For a budget I was thinking maybe no more than $120 USD for the keyboard and no more than about $50 USD for the mouse.

As far as a keyboard, I'm considering the G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780 MX Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Cherry MX Brown Switches. I've been looking at the Tt eSPORTS Talon Multi Colored USB Gaming Mouse, but I really don't have a clue about either of these items, whether they are good choices, good value or anything. I would like for the keyboard and mouse to lighted, preferably red to match the color scheme of the computer. Can you all give me your feedback on this? I don't think he necessarily cares whether it's a mechanical keyboard or not. As for a mouse, he's pretty adept with one and shouldn't have any problem customizing buttons to his liking. He's a pretty smart kid.

Thanks.

I'd pickup this mouse and keyboard combo for $30 ($20 after rebate)

Not mechanical, but it does have red LED backlighting.

I agree with RazerZ if you want something that'll do straight forward gaming without all the bells and whistles, and you won't spend hardly anything which is a plus :)
