Hello all,

A few days ago my Radeon HD 7850 2GB which I have had for over three years died on me after I downloaded a patch from AMD. I'm not certain whether it was purely a software issue or if the card itself is broken, but for a while I feared I had lost the entire computer (the screen was blank, the computer wouldn't even start up in Safe Mode etc). Eventually I figured out how to switch to using the integrated graphics card in my processor, successfully booted from a disk and removed all the AMD drivers from my PC and my computer now works fine with the obvious exception of not being able to play any games.

In any case my experience has made me realize that even if I could get my old graphics card to work again (which I doubt) the HD 7850 is becoming quite out of date and it could be worth investing in a new graphics card which could extend the life of my computer as a viable gaming PC. Unfortunately I'm on a budget of £100-£150 so my choices are limited. I've been researching different graphics cards for a few days but I thought it would be a good idea to get some advice (if it is possible) from people with a better understanding of the subject than myself.

I bought my computer in 2012. It came fully assembled and was professionally overclocked.
My current specs:

CPU: Intel Core I5 3570k @ 4.3Ghz
CPU cooler: Xigmatek Prime SD 1484
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB (Broken)
RAM: Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance 4GB x 2 (8GB in total)
PSU: Xigmatek NRP-VC603 600w with 1 6-pin PCIe 500mm and 1 6+2-pin PCIe 500mm (currently on the 6-pin is used.

Compatibility is my biggest concern. It looks like my PSU can provide enough power to some of the cards I have looked at but from reading this forum it doesn't seem that my PSU is well regarded. Of course any card I buy would need to work with my Motherboard and CPU as well. I'm worried about wasting money on an incompatible graphics card.

My current possibilities:

Radeon R7 370
Radeon R9 270
GTX 960
Radeon R9 380

I would appreciate any recommendations on offer. Thanks

Solution
270 and 370 would be downgrades, 280, 280x, or 380 are better than the 7850 for AMD.
for Nvidia the 960 is a good choice and better than your 7850
