Good evening guys,

With black friday deals, and cyber monday around the corner,I thought now would be a good time to upgrade/start from scratch. My goals are to play all new games on ultra, for the next two years. The system I currently have, cannot max out fallout 4 at 1080p. I play my PC games on my TV, so I also considered a smaller case to fit in my tv stand. People have said not to go that route, because of ventilation issues. I recently saw Syber steam machines on sale, and thought it looked like a good design. I have a few parts I could scrap from the old PC that could save a few bucks. I dont want to spend more than $1000, less would be better! SSD's are not necessary either. I will post additional concerns below the PC specs. Here are the specs on my current system.

CPU: [strike]neural net processor
[/strike]
I5 2500k (not over clocked)
GPU: EVGA gtx 770 SC 2GB
Memory: 8GB 1333mhz rip jaws
HDD: 500gb sata 3
Mother board: gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3
PSU: corsair cx750m
Monitor: 1080p TV
Case: CM Storm

I purcased this PC a few years back, with a GTX 560 ti. I want to say its 3-4 yrs old. I plan on scrapping what i can.

Concerns and additional questions:

1. Are 8gb GPU's a gimmick? The gpu i was looking at is a gtx 980 since it is on sale for $430. The next GPU from nvidia I would choose is a gtx 970. People seem to favor nvidia for their driver support, i also like the idea of dedicated phsyx.(open to new ideas, in reference to AMD gpus)

2. Are small form factors a good idea for my setup? The reason i ask, is because Syber steam machines sparked my interest. I will only be running 1-2 HDD's at max with no plans for dual gpus.

3. Is it too late to get into the 900 series, or should i wait for the next group of cards from nvidia (1000 series?)

4. Is it worth an upgrade from what i have now? Some say cpu's have not advanced that much, since i currently have a i5 2500k(which does not support pcie 3.0) I can currently get some decent FPS on fallout 4, with god rays on low and other options on ultra. Maybe I should wait another year til my PC can only push games to medium?

Thanks in advance guys!

Solution
You can wait for NVIDIA's Pascal next year. Your PC is not bad, in fact it is a dream of many.

1. They are not, at least at 4K and 1440p. There is no real NEED for more than 4GB at 1080p.
2. Not really. Those are cramped and have very limited space and upgrade ability.
3. Yes, wait for Pascal next year, your PC is VERY capable. I don't know why you are complaining, honestly.
4. The only worthy upgrade would be an i7. That i5 is still a very capable CPU and is comparable to the i5's of current generations.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the advice forever oleg, maybe I had an urge to impulse by some new hardware. Kinda OCD with things, as far as game settings go. Thanks again, happy holidays!
