So this is a weird problem that I have never had before I just bought a Ge force GT 740 to replace my dying Radon HD 4870 as I mostly only play games like counter strike and other non high demanding F2P games so did not need anything crazy. when i put the 740 in the bios will not detect any drives hard drive or cd drive and if i try to let it boot just says no drives detected plug in a drive and reboot bla bla bla, but if i go in the bios and change the setings from the default ahic ( or whatever it is cant remember) to Natie IDE it detects them but then says disk error pre ctrl+alt+delete to restart but once I put my old gpu in the HD 4870 change the bios back to defaults using the ahic computer starts up and works fine ( currentley using it to make this post). help? And for the record everything was hooked up right and psu ramm and board cpu and hard drive are all good so.

Hey there, Amoxy239!

I'd advise you to try fixing the issue by resetting BIOS using one of the methods listed here: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS
This will get your BIOS settings back to factory defaults and you'd need to reconfigure them afterwards, but it might also help you detect all the components properly.
I'd also check your motherboard manufacturer's website for any updates on the BIOS firmware. Make sure you have everything connected properly and that the issue is not, in fact, a loose cable.

Good luck! Hope it helps. :)

Have reset the bios and there is only 1 update for it from around 2006 which i all ready have updated to and everything is conected right as the pc works when i have my ATI card installed. thanks anyways

Hey there again, Amoxy239!

I'd then test the HDD in another computer and see if it gets properly recognized there. Another thing you can try is swapping the SATA cable connecting the hard drive and also changing the SATA port on the motherboard. Just make sure that the ports are actually enabled in the BIOS settings.

Keep me posted.

Unfortunately, it's highly possible that the GPU is not compatible with your system, @Amoxy239!
I'd recommend you to check this out by contacting the manufacturer's customer support. Hopefully, they will be able to assist you more in finding the source of the issue.

Best of luck!
Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful.
