Hello! I currently have this build picked out, and I currently have a i5 6600k and a lga 1151 motherboard picked out.

I was wondering if the lga 1150 socket is still worth it, because I would like this build a bit future proof.

So would the build still be decent (Run most games at high to ultra setting at 60+ fps) if i downgraded to a i5 4690k cpu? It would save about 100 dollars if i downgraded.

Would it be worth it, or is the lga 1150 socket outdated, or soon to be outdated ( In the next few months/half year ish)

Thanks!

The LGA 1150 is being phased out right now. The 1151 should be used for another year or 2. Now the CPU should be good for the next 5 years or so, Skylake isn't that much of an improvement. But don't expect to upgrade the processor on an 1150 board( though you shouldn't need to.) The real difference in with some of the new connections on 1151 boards-- like M.2 and USB 3.1. If you think you'll use them, the $100 is probably worth it. If you won't, you can save some money with the 1150.

There's no such thing a "future proof". Just set a budget and get what you believe is the best deal. It doesn't really make much of a difference about the specific socket unless you plan on changing motherboards every few months. It's more likely you'll use the same motherboard for the life of the CPU.
