So I am looking to upgrade my 8 port 10/100 switch, because it's a huge bottleneck to my NAS. Now, 8 ports is enough now, but I am already using five of the 8 ports, and I can see myself using at least four more in the near future. I want to find a gigabit switch with 12+ ports. I don't want to spend much, as I am a college student and am kind of broke. I found a few of these on eBay cheap, but I cannot find any information on them. I want to spend under $45 if possible.

Is this decent? Is it managed or unmanaged? (I don't need a managed switch). Other information?

Other used switch suggestions?

Why don't you buy a 8 port gig switch for $20 (like TL-SG1008D just a example). When you actually need more ports buy a second one and you are still under your $45 price point.

There are some downside to plugging 2 switches together but you would have to actually be exceeding 1g of traffic which is unlikely in a home network.
