CPU upgrade question

I made a gaming PC with son and it has the following:
AMD A78M-E45 mobo
AMD 750 x4 processor
(2) 750 GB hard drives
16 GB RAM (DDR3-2133)
Sapphire Radeon R9 280X GPU
850W Coarsair PSU

He is looking to upgrade and I don't see many options for the CPU with the FM2+ limitation on the mobo. When I bought the mob they said it was ready for all current and future CPU's. Am I confused about this? Can an Intel Core i7 be installed on it? Is a AMD A10-7850 much of an improvement over what he has? Also, the new AMD CPUs have an integrated R7 GPU. Will this conflict with my discrete GPU or complement it? Any advise is appreciated. Note: He is only 12 and plays Minecraft and CSgo so help me to be realistic.

the a10 wouldnt be much of an improvement, probably not what you'd expect from what you would be spending. the apu runs separately from discrete graphics. the apu will just be unused. fm2+ is the socket type. intel and amd are not interchangeable. different chips may have different socket types. a chip can only fit in its designated socket. if what you got isnt enough, buying a new board and a much better chip would be the best option. preferably an intel h97 board and an i5-4590 or xeon e3-1231 v3 depending on your budget. that is assuming you are trying to keep costs down and not overclock. ps the xeon is equivalent to an i7-4770 but lacks integrated graphics.

If you want to upgrade cheap....

Go to the Asus website and look at the cpu compatibility list for that motherboard.

Look on ebay for the fastest ones in the list.

Update your firmware.

Pop in the new processor with new heatsink compound.

You're done.
