I've a Dell N5010 laptop and having problem with my headphones. It was all working fine until one day sound came from both the speaker and the headphone at the same time. I tried everything but once couldn't find a solution I formatted the computer. After reinstalling windows and drivers the problem continued. Now once I plug in the headphone the computer doesn't even see the headphone. How can I solve this problem?

Thanks,
Tevfik

OK before I get in depth, please if you can just find another pair of headphones, plug them in and see if its the same results. if it is follow the steps below.

Go to device manager, get rid of the driver you downloaded previously. ONce in device manager, scan for hardware changes, then go down to anything with an exclamation mark and update the drivers, go to sound and controllers, update all the drivers.

If you need the specific drivers please do exactly this, download the Dell system software tool, I have provided you with the exact driver for your model PC.

Please download the Audio Drivers here that I specifically got for your dell Model. INstall them all then restart your PC.

If you would like to see what other...

You need to reinstall your headphone drivers, afterwards go to volume, playback devices, right click show disabled devices. Enable your headset, or your computer speakers, whichever one you want to use. if you dont want sound out of the PC disable the PC playback audio, only headphones set them as defaultt device, this way whenever you plug in your headphones, it will play out of them before the PC, once removed PC volume will return to normal operation.

Thank you for your reply bailojustin,

I searched for Dell N5010 drivers and installed the following:
- Dell Wireless WLAN 1501 Half Mini-Card
- Realtek RTL8103T Ethernet Controller
- IDT 92HD79B1 Audio Driver
Unfortunately this has not helped me out. Now I am getting sound out of the headphone but I get sound from the speaker at the same time. On the sound menu I have Speaker/Headphone and Independent Headphone. Speaker/Headphone is selected as default device and Independent Headphone is selected as default communication device. Is there something else I can do to solve this problem?

Thanks,
Tevfik

I tried that. When I disable Speaker/Headphone there is no sound whatsoever. When I disable Independent Headphone nothing changes. I don't what this is but it is a very annoying problem.

Go into device manager, go to audio and unis tall all the drivers, reboot, once rebooted go back to device manager, scan hardware for changes it should download the correct audio drivers. It can also be the headphones are messed up, try a different pair and see the results

Do the headphones you have use usb, if not your your headphone plug on your laptop may be broken amd not registering the headphones as in fully. Does the sound stop only halfway plugged in?

The headphones aren't USB and they work fine. The sound comes from both the speaker and headphones. It's weird. I uninstalled the drivers, the PC automatically installed it, but then no sound came from the headphone. Then I installed the latest IDT driver and now sound comes from both. While I was searching the net I read at some place about Realtek Audio Manager but I could only install Realtek drivers not the Audio Manager. That didn’t help either.

I appreciate all your help but it still doesn’t work. The computer was working fine. I don’t know what I did to get this problem. I’ll continue using it like this. It’s ok. Thanks again.
