Mouse and Keyboard stop working a few minutes after desktop loads?

Hello. Recently my keyboard and mouse started having problems where it just stops working randomly. The lights are on for both of them and there seems to be no usb problem with their connection to the pc. I haven't downloaded anything or made any changes to the computer so I don't understand why this is happening. Please help.Thanks

Do the mouse and keyboard work properly with another computer?
Did you try to plug in the mouse and keyboard into different USB ports?
If you have a spare mouse and keyboard, try using those with the computer (first try to plugging them into the same USB ports), then try them out in different ports.

With the above you are testing if the issue is related to the mainboard (USB ports) or the mouse and keybaord themselves.
The issue could also be coming from software issues (Hardware drivers or an issue with the installed OS).
