I got an ssd. I want to put windows 8 and a couple of games in it to make them run faster. However, I have all of this installed in a 1tb hhd which is what im running as my boot and stroage drive. How do i put windows and some programs in my ssd without losing everything and preferably without reinstalling windows?

2 options: Migration from old to new, and clean install

Migration
This requires that the current used space be smaller than the size of the new SSD. You can't do just part of the current install ("os and a couple of games")
All or nothing
This usually works. Usually.

Clean install
This requires that you have the install media and the license key. A full clean install on the new drive.
This requires that you also reinstall all your applications.
This always works.

Now...how much used space is on your current drive, how large is the new SSD, and are there any other drives in the system?

Thanks for the quick answer :) .The hard drive is the only drive in my system, and im currently using 115gb, but i can erase a couple of things for it to fit snugly. Why would migration not work? I would prefer it so as to not reinstall al my programs and files. And if i do migration i can still use the hard drive for storing files, right?

When it works, the migration concept is quick and easy.
When it fails, it can lead to a long vale of tears.

And it fails far more than just a clean install on the new drive. It is not 100% foolproof.

Just yesterday, I helped 3 guys here through this process. One of them...we finally gave up trying to make the migration thing work and he just reinstalled the OS on the new SSD.
Spent hours trying to 'fix' a mucked up migration, vs 45 minutes with a clean install of the OS, and starting from a known good configuration.

What size SSD are you contemplating? Today's prices, a 250GB is a good price v size ratio.

And yes, you can use the HDD later, for whatever you wish.

xD okay, so i have my windows key and i think i still have the bootable usb. So, if i wanted to go for the second option and reinstall my apps, that means i lose all my files right?

Depends on what you mean by 'files'.
Files that live on your current 1TB HDD...Doc/Music/Video...those are not 'lost'. Copy and move as needed.
Applications? Those will need to be reinstalled with the new OS.
Steam games can be moved or relocated as needed. Other games fall under 'applications'.

You're making a whole new OS on a new drive. It does not know anything about your current applications.
