I want to add some more ram to my pc. I have 2x4gb corsair vengeance. I am going to upgrade my pc next year, but I would like to just add some ram right now. Should I buy the same ram and how much do you think I should buy. My mobo has 2 more slots open by the way.

Solution
I suggest saving your money and possibly building your new machine a bit earlier. Or save the money and get a better system next year, possibly DDR4.

DRAM varies from batch to batch and sometimes even within the same batch because manufacturing equipment changes due to wear and tear and sometimes different manufacturing parameters are used at different times. This is why RAM manufacturers sell sticks that are in matched pairs. So even if you get the same RAM brand, ratings, etc. it may not work with your existing RAM or may work but only at lower speeds.

If you are attempting to increase gaming performance see the following article
