Hey, I'm looking to build a gaming pc and sell it for a profit. My parts are here at pcpartpicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TfzXD3.
I was hoping for 700 on craigslist.

Solution
Do not build it and then try to sell - people will low ball you!

Instead, offer to build per your specs and state a price for which you would do it. Like a custom build advertisement.

$500 in parts, and you want a profit on top of that?
I could probably find a similar PC from Walmart or BestBuy for $450.

Convince me. What extra value do you bring?
Can I call your helpline at 3AM when it breaks?

Mine would be better than any 450 dollar system

Sold, or just taken offline?
Yes, with the right advertising, you can sell anything.
$700 for a $500 pile of mediocre parts is a bit tough, though. That price level, you are competing with Walmart and Bestbuy.

Also, are you going to be selling this out of your house? Because when that power supply blows up they might come knocking. If not, how much of a legitimate enterprise could you run selling PCs out of the trunk of your car in a shady parking lot deal?

If you really think about this your profit per hour isn't that great. You're spending time researching components, assembling the box, installing windows, possibly troubleshooting the system, maybe even doing an RMA, posting in on Craigslist, answering phone calls and emails, arranging a time, going to the sale, etc. By the time this is all said and done how much time went into this? Could you have made the same amount of money by getting a second job delivering pizzas?

I used to deliver pizzas. $100/night on the weekend, $50 weekday/night blows away trying to build and sell PC's on craigslist.
Of course, you might get robbed, which is why I quit doing that long ago.

Of course, people have been robbed during craigslist sales.

Pretty much what i was getting at. You also get lots of free pizza!

Also you might get beat up when some guy figures out you ripped him off.
