As per the title really, Its now practically a year since I bought the major components for my sig rig, and the price of the 970 just doesn't seem to have dropped. I would have thought with the arrival of the 390 the price may drop but the EVGA is still £260+. I was kinda hoping they would have dropped below £200 after a year so I could convince the other half into SLI-ing them to play on the 4k tv ......

The 290X should...except most of them only have 4GB as well. The 290X / 390X are more comparable to the 980, not the 970.

You can usually find a used 290x for around $270, which is less than the price of the 970. I think it's a fair comparison. The 390x on the other hand is much more expensive.

I still wouldn't get a 4GB one though. I'd spend the extra and get the 8GB version. Flash the bios to up the stock clock speed of the 390X, and viola....390X performance for the price of a high end 970.

At least...that's what I'd do. = )

I guess you're forced into getting a 970. I don't expect the prices to fall until Pascal unless AMD decides to lower it's prices. I think it's better if you just wait in this case. Pascal will most likely blow Maxwell out of the water.
