What is the difference between i3 4170 and i3 6100 performance wise ?

Hello guys ,

I was thinking of getting an i3 4170 with a 80-90$ motherboard , but then I saw the i3 6100 . And here's the question ;
Given that I already have ddr3 memory , is the 6100 a better option than the 4170 ( because if I go with the 6100 I would have to get ddr4 memory and a more expensive motherboard ) ?

So I should go with the 6100 with a fast kit of memory , and a good mother board .
Any suggestions ? I would prefer the motherboard to not exceed $90 .
And 8 gigs of ddr4 wich I can't seem to find for some reason .

Ok this one is much better and it is close to your max budget.
Since you have DDR3 RAM we can spend more on better CPU here.
Xeon is like i7 but without IGPU and it is rly good CPU for the money.

Can you find a mother board closer to $90 ? I can afford a $90 no matter the cpu .

Another question , is it ok to swap cpu's in a system ? I already have an i5 4460 on another system , I can just swap them without the need of a fresh install right ?

Yes you can just swap them.
Also update BIOS it newest version so you dont have any compatibility issues.
E3 1226 is not better.
This is best best price performance Xeon you can get without spending to much.

I have an MSI h97 gaming 3 and I have never updated its bios , how is it done ?
