Heya all.

I got fed up with these ridiculous prices in laptops, so I decided to build a semi-portable PC. Id like to build a nice small, portable, good value, but not too expensive little machine.

Mostly used for 1080p (opt1440p) Gaming (modern games like Fallout 4, Crysis, other Shooters, etc) Digital painting (Adobe Photoshop)

SO far this is what I put together:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4WCZNG Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4WCZNG/by_merchant/
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($200.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L12 37.8 CFM CPU Cooler ($60.89 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($114.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($87.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Sandisk SSD PLUS 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($59.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card ($299.99 @ Micro Center) Power Supply: Silverstone Strider Gold 450W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular SFX Power Supply ($75.65 @ SuperBiiz)

Total: $900.49

I am in Central Europe by the way, not US.
I am inexperienced in this! I researched for the last 3 days, a ton of hours. I would like to ask your advice.

Is there a way to make this cheaper with still having similar strength, better value?

Because I am almost at the price of laptops now, whic is the opposite of my goal.
I am trying to get down to $750-800 but I see that impossible so far, unless I can find second hand parts.

Will temperatures be fine with this build?

If I order these components, can I just build it, or do I need some extra components? (trays, cables, cooling paste, etc)

Will I be able to connect DP port display?

Is this motherboard good enough? Wifi is important to me, is this integrated good enough, or can I just plug in a wifi card, into this motherboard? Should I use another MB?
Since last years, I have very bad experiences so far with Gaming PCs in terms of smoothness, I owned an y510p 750m SLI laptop before, but that was a waste of money too, I sold it right away, even when I had good FPS(60+), everything was stuttering, and it just wasn't smooth for the eye (unenjoyable really, especially with shooters). Can I expect a build similar to this to be smooth?
Thanks a ton for the help guys!

I don’t own any of the parts so far, but I want to go with this case, since this is the smallest I found so far.

You could also consider the Silverstone Raven and Coolermaster Elite 110.

That Samsung SSD is actually more expensive.
Here in the UK the Samsung is cheaper! But sure, go for whatever is cheapest in your country.

The same with the powersupply, That is a quite expensive PSU isnt it? Isn't 500W an overkill?
It’s physically slightly larger. It’s SFX-L which means it’s a few centimetres longer than a standard SFX power supply. That has allowed Silverstone to put in a 120mm fan instead of 80mm which is significantly quieter. The 80mm fan in the 450 Watt SFX supply is noticeably loud – this may or may not...

Apologies, yes it is! Do you already own the case, or would you consider other cases?

I used to own one an SG05, I know it very well. Firstly your CPU cooler will not fit, it's much too tall (the PSU is directly above the CPU). From memory the longest GPU you can fit in the case is 9" long, so I don't think the GPU will fit either edit: I was wrong, the case is good up to 10"

This is what I came up with, bear in mind that UK prices include sales tax at 20%, so this is £552, converted to dollars that's $830. My listing has a newer CPU (yours is an older Haswell CPU) with DDR4 RAM (you don't need 16Gb for gaming), a better CPU cooler, better SSD, better PSU.

I need the 16 GB-s for Digital Painting, in standard use, I run already on full memory a lot of times because of the big Photoshop files. (Photoshop only takes around 7 GB)

i5 6400 is weaker but it looks like its cheaper yes, that might work better. Also the motherboard, thats good.

That Samsung SSD is actually more expensive, and it wont give anything to the strength of the computer, there is not much difference in performance as far as I know. It looks like a waste of money. The same with the powersupply, That is a quite expensive PSU isnt it? Isn't 500W an overkill?

I think this EVGA fits, I checked it on other forums.

I agree, I think you’re right

So you can put that liquid CPU Cooler fan anywhere in the computer?

Yes, there’s a 120mm mount at the front of the case where a water cooler will fit. You have to remove all of the drive bays, but you don’t need them anyway (just use sticky back Velcro to attach the SSD to the bottom of the case).
Alternative suggestion if you prefer to stick to air cooling: Noctua NH-L9i
