Im looking to add some new parts to my build, but switching from amd to intel confuses me a little when it comes to motherboards and im a little out of the loop when it comes to the best graphics cards today as the last time i upgraded was to an r9 270x. If the price point or the processor shifts, thats fine as i have not ordered anything as of yet, but plan to within the next week or two.

Z97-A by ASUS currently at 90$,solid board and user friendly BIOS,i have one of these, can't go wrong with it.
GTX 970/R9 390 for 1080p gaming.
That's a good price right now on the asus z97-a, it's usually been around $130-140. The asrock extreme 6 has a few more features and is also on sale right now. It really depends what you need/want in terms of connections. Things like usb 3.0, 3.1 (some boards have 3.1 others don't), m.2/sata express capability, thunderbolt port and so on.

The gtx 970 is a nice card for 1080p around $300. Some models like the asus strix or evga superclocked acx 2.0 have higher gpu clocks out of the box and would be solid choices.

If you're planning to overclock the i5 don't forget to check out an aftermarket cooler if you don't have one already. Between your $600 budget for gpu and motherboard you can get solid choices for both and still have plenty left over for a good cooler if you need one.
